Hailey + Zach, A Pungo Microwedding

Hailey and Zach were married in May in one of the most creative and beautiful ceremonies I’ve seen to date. Unfortunately, they were one of my first weddings of the year that was affected by COVID19, but certainly not my last. Hailey’s ceremony and reception were held in her granddad’s backyard in Pungo, and we snuck away to Sandbridge for a few portraits right before sunset!

“Microwedding” was a term that I had not heard before this year, but I definitely think will be a trend at least for the rest of 2020, if not even longer!

Microweddings contain all the same elements of a traditional wedding, but on a smaller scale. Hailey and Zach were extremely limited in the guests they could invite, and stuck to immediate family, grandparents, and their best man / maid of honor!

We started the afternoon much like I would with any of my other couples - getting ready!

Hailey and Zach opted not to do a first look with each other, but instead Hailey did a first look with each of the dads in her life! It was so special to see each of their reactions to seeing her in her dress.

The ceremony space was set up so beautifully and with social distancing in mind! Couples were sat together, but spaced out from other attendees. How creative were Hailey and her mom, Brandy?!

After the ceremony, we went straight into family portraits and then first dances! The couple opted to skip the dinner portion and instead serve pre-packaged bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes, and Hailey and Zach cut the cake that Hailey made herself!

Next, we snuck away to take some stunning and intimate couples portraits while Hailey and Zach’s families orchestrated an incredible surprise for them. The couple had no idea, but when they drove back to get their bags, they would be met by a huge parade of sparklers and well-wishers! It was so sweet to see Hailey get emotional and tear up (I almost did too!).

So much love and emotion went into pulling this wedding off, and I’m so grateful to have been able to document it for them.
