Camila + Steven, a rainy & beautiful Charlotte wedding
Last summer, I received an inquiry from this guy named Steven. He was already in the works, planning a proposal to his beautiful girlfriend, and wanted to potentially line up booking me, if not for the proposal itself then possibly for the wedding this year. I was pretty blown away that Steven had taken such initiative (a lot of people wouldn’t have thought ahead like this but he definitely did!)
Fast forward about 9 months and…COVID. Camila and Steven were faced with the gut-wrenching decision to cut down, if not possibly cancel, their big day. Instead of the big bash they had initially planned on, they were able to cut down their guest list and still celebrate in a beautifully intimate way, surrounded by their closest friends and family.
The wedding was initially planned to take place in the garden outside, but the weather looked a little questionable, so they made the call to move everything inside, which ended up being a very, very good idea.
After the ceremony, we saw the storm clouds rolling in and thought it would be a good idea to kick it into high gear to get outside and get portraits knocked out. Camila had selected a little park and a gorgeous old church to do some bridal, couples, and bridal party portraits at but before we could get there, the skies opened and it started storming hard. We actually had to divert our route at one point because a tree had fallen and blocked the road.
Instead, we found a cozy little nook and a line of trees right in the church parking lot to get a few beautiful portraits for them to remember their big day by.
Walking back into the reception space we were met with another fun twist - the power was out! As the reception continued by candlelight, Camila’s father gave his blessing over the couple and thanked the guests for coming and celebrating alongside them. Camila and Steven’s best friends and maid of honor / best man were able to give toasts as well, telling of their bird’s eye view into Steven & Camila’s relationship from the beginning.
It was truly a memorable day for so many reasons, but mainly the emotion and prayer that filled the room. I never take for granted what a true gift it is for me to come alongside couples and help them create memories that will last for forever.
