Heartfelt Moments at Home: The Crowther Family’s Chesapeake Session
There are some families you meet and instantly feel connected to, and the Crowther family is one of them. Amanda originally found me through a friend whose baby announcement photos I had done last year. When she reached out for an in-home session, neither of us realized just how many connections we already shared. Not only did Amanda and her friend work together, but it turned out we also attend the same church and have a whole web of mutual acquaintances. Chesapeake, (really the Hampton Roads area) is the smallest big town!
Walking into their beautiful new home, midway through a kitchen remodel and full of the fresh excitement that comes with moving in and I immediately felt welcomed. Mitchell, Amanda, and sweet Oliver greeted me with the warmest energy. And speaking of Oliver… this little guy has never met a stranger. He walked straight up, wrapped his arms around me, and gave me the sweetest hug. I knew I was in good company!
Mitchell was incredibly kind and so easy to work with, which always makes an in-home family session feel relaxed and natural. When partners are involved and engaged, it adds an extra layer of connection to every image. Oliver kept us all laughing… he was so happy, snuggly, and LOVED the cake we used toward the end of the session. His joy was contagious and made photographing him effortless.

To make the most out of your session (whether with me or any lifestyle photographer!), here’s my favorite advice for preparing your space:
Choose 2–3 areas inside or outside your home that you’d love to be photographed in.
Pick places with natural light (windows are your best friend). Then, simply tidy those spots. You don’t need to deep-clean or rearrange the whole house! Even shifting items to the opposite side of the room works perfectly.
Also:
Turn off all artificial lights for the softest, most natural look.
Have a few outfits ready so we can switch things up as needed.
Remember, the more time I spend cleaning or rearranging, the less time I can spend capturing your beautiful family. The Crowther family did an amazing job prepping their home…even in the middle of moving in! They cleared a few light-filled spaces and had several outfit options ready, which allowed their session to flow smoothly and feel effortless.
