Why Fall in Virginia Beach Is My Favorite Season for Family Photos

Fall in Virginia Beach is hands down one of my favorite seasons for photography. The air is crisp but not too cold, the beaches are quieter, and the golden tones of the season add the most gorgeous warmth to photos. While summer often gets the spotlight, fall is secretly one of the best times to take family photos here in Virginia Beach.

When Terri and Eric reached out to me for their family session at the Pleasure House Point off Shore Drive, I knew the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The fall light was soft and golden, wrapping them in a cozy glow that made the entire session feel extra dreamy. There’s something about Virginia Beach’s Pleasure House Point in autumn—the crowds thin out, the ocean feels calmer, and the whole setting becomes this peaceful backdrop that’s perfect for family, maternity, or newborn photos.

Fast forward just a little bit, and I had the absolute joy of meeting baby Owen for their family session. Sweet doesn’t even begin to cover it. Owen was the happiest little guy! Capturing those early days is always such a privilege, and it was beautiful to see Terri and Eric stepping into parenthood with so much love and joy.

Fall is such a meaningful time to pause and capture the season your family is in right now. Beyond just creating beautiful portraits, these sessions are about documenting real connections—your growing belly, the way your newborn fits so perfectly in your arms, or the laughter and closeness of your family together. As a photographer, I want to ensure these moments aren’t just lived, but preserved in a way that you can look back on for years to come.

If you’re dreaming of fall family photos in Virginia Beach, I’d love to capture them for you. Let’s make some magic with the season that was made for unforgettable memories.
