How To Prep For Your Couples Session

I am in the business of creating images that feel like memories. Couples sessions with me feel a little more like hanging out with the friend who happened to bring her camera along. These sessions, which happen to be my favorite, are meant to be relaxed, fun, and full of joy!

Choosing A Date And Time

If these are your engagement photos and you are planning on using the images to order your save the dates, make sure you allow plenty of time to get your gallery back from me!

I am more than happy to be flexible with days of the week, but will generally give you preferred timeframes based on lighting! You can plan on your session taking place the hour after sunrise or an hour before sunset.

Getting To Know Each Other

It’s so important to me that I get to know you individually and as a couple in order to provide you with the best service possible. I want to know anything and everything - your favorite music, your pet’s name, and even become aware of what might make you uncomfortable or self conscious during the session!

Picking A Location

Picking your location should be based on a few things. What is meaningful to you as a couple? Did you get engaged in the mountains? Are your favorite dates together at the beach? I have many locations I would love to suggest, but ultimately the best locations are the ones that meant the most to you as a couple.

Choosing What To Wear, and Hair & Makeup

There are a ton of factors that go into choosing what to wear, and I know it can be tough to decide which outfit will suit your photos best. Here are some things you should consider, to name a few: wear something you are comfortable in, allow for movement, consider the location and season, avoid distractions, complement each other, and bring lots of options! Just like with clothing, do the hair and makeup look that makes you feel and look the most comfortable and beautiful in your own skin.

Props And What To Bring

Props can be really cute or sometimes they can flop! Whether you bring ice cream, a comfy blanket, dog, or guitar.. the choice is up to you, but try to stick to one or two things so that the photos are focused on YOU! In addition to outfit options and props, it’s always good to bring extra shoes, touch up kit, beverages, and a backpack to throw it all in.

Mindset

The only way to make images that feel like memories is to truly make the memories themselves. I strongly encourage you to make a day of your photo session whether that means going out afterwards or getting coffee before. Whatever you do, make an event of your couples session to help get you hyped up! If you put in the effort and extend trust, I promise to provide you with incredible pictures that you will cherish for a lifetime
